Teeth and Eyes and Doctors OH MY!!!

Before I get started, we do take care of our kiddos teeth, we make sure they brush them and we brush them, but all the same I got a little freaked out about Addy and her teeth because at the grand ole age of 4 she has loose teeth, yeah not just one, we were about to leave on vacation when she noted her tooth was loose, I thought she was kidding, but no, she wasn't, we had a friend who is a dentist check it out real quick like to give me a little piece of mind, I mean really how many four year olds do you know that loose teeth when of course they haven't been knocked out? NOT MANY I am guessing. So after our friend assured me it was okay I kind of put it on the back burner and was just going to go with the flow unless there was a problem, WELL it seemed to me that all of our friends got on the Dentist wagon and got their kids in some for their first appointments some just cleanings but you know how something all the sudden starts nagging you well The dentist thing had me worried so I got on it and made appointments for both the kiddos. It went great! Addy was a rock star this was her first actual cleaning and they did pictures which thankfully to my relief showed no cavities and to my surprise showed her 6 year molars coming in one has already broke the others are at the surface... Well I guess we can confirm her bones all over think her to be older then she is, she looks like a 6 year old, might as well do the things a six year does, like loose your teeth, everyday since going to the dentist she has flossed without fail, I am so proud of her, we struggled with that before, but know she is a pro!

Jimmy to my surprise did not do all that well, he was excited to go and then got there and freaked a bit so he sat on dad's lap and did a smallish cleaning, next time will go better, he did let the dentist check his mouth out and all looked well, he too has been a rock star with flossing since, when we were getting ready to go he got a hold of the water pic the hygienist uses and managed to water the office down a full wall of it before we realized what he was doing, what a hoot he is!

These are their before pictures he really was excited to go and be there, good thing they are open on sat so we can tag team them I am not sure it would go so well on my own.

So after the relief of the dentist visit, we headed to another appointment at least Addy did later in the week, for some time now we have had a suspicion that something was amuk with her eyes, we have them screened every year since she was 20 months  which only tells us her vision kind of, but this appointment was a little different they did all kinds of tests to see if her eyes are connecting to her brain essentially to sum it up. We have for the most part had to train all of her major muscle groups to respond to her brain and then her brain back to the muscle group which is part of the Apraxia we have not however done any training with her eyes, her OT came to us about 2 months ago and discussed her concern for addy to be tested for her visual 

perception issues and her learning issues that are starting to creep back up. So we made an appointment and got on it, we had to wait for all of 2 months to get in and the appointment was over 2 hours long but it was very interesting, unfortunately it was indecisive, while there doing all their tests they came across the fact that she has astigmatism in both eyes and needs corrective wear to address the issue, astigmatism is not something they can screen for, but I wasn't expecting her to need glasses as we had just had a screen, it isn't all that surprising though as both Doug and I have astigmatism , the specialist said for a lot of kids that come in with some learning issues and need glasses that they would leave it at that, The glasses tend to correct the learning problem by allowing them to see, however she was not convinced this would be the case with Addy, A girl can hope though! We have to go back in a month after she has adjusted to her glasses and do more testing to see if in fact the astigmatism was the culprit or if there is a more in depth visual problem to be dealt with via Vision therapy, we have already been doing a number of different drills and eye exercises we have been at for 2 months since the OT noted the issue, but I am so hopeful it will go better when her glasses get in and of course there will be a picture to come as well.  We have had a busy couple of weeks with getting all the Doctor appointments in with everything else, it will be nice to not see them for awhile, knock on wood
